UNTERLAND
Bern 2014 / Site Specific Audio-Installation
The project for the Bern Biennale took place in a former quarry that was supposed to be converted into a bunker for the Swiss Federal Council after World War II, but remained an unfinished construction site.
With in the damp climate artificially generated mold and bright green highlighting paint this former security architecture is staged as a contaminated zone.
The sound installation uses the extreme reverberation of the extensive caverns and creates an immersive experience through low-frequency sine waves.
The audience is given protective suits and thus becomes part of the hidden visual world of this sound space inside the mountain.
Concept / Scenography - Lukas Sander / Séverine Urwyler
Sound - Christian Berkes
