DEUS IN MACHINA
Zurich 2017 / Site Specific Audio-Installation
A walk-in sound installation in the Schlieren Gasometer—a place of industrial history unique to the Zurich region.
Sound transducers on the outer steel walls transform the building into a resonant sounding body with extraordinary reverberation, allowing visitors to experience the specific materiality of the entire structure.
Using fog and light the scenographic staging creates an almost mystical atmosphere in the interior of this technical facility.
Like an Orphic descent into the underworld, the walkway leads over stairs and scaffoldings through a cloud cover into the depths to a dark lake on which a rowing boat floats.
